We are proud that our customer e.systeme21 has been featured on Smart Service BW as a practical example. The Ulm-based company demonstrates how photovoltaics, building energy retrofits, and hydrogen technology can be combined to create a self-sufficient, CO₂-neutral office building.

Since its founding in 2013, e.systeme21 has been developing complete solutions for building energy supply – from PV systems to battery storage, heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging stations. One major challenge: excess solar power in summer must be efficiently stored for winter use. Conventional battery storage quickly reaches its economic limits in seasonal storage.

The solution: our hydrogen system. Excess solar electricity is converted into hydrogen, stored for months, and converted back into electricity and heat as needed. Today, e.systeme21’s office building operates energy-autonomously – a real-world example of how green hydrogen can work efficiently and economically in buildings.

The pilot project was implemented in close collaboration and demonstrates how hydrogen systems can provide reliable seasonal storage for solar energy. The system’s control was also developed jointly to optimize all components.
