ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions has been voted one of the 15 best energy start-ups in the Bavarian Energy-Start-up 2020 competition by a panel of experts (https://www.energie-startup.bayern/wettbewerb/halbfinale).
Spin-off
ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions is still a business unit of Klaus Ostermeier GmbH, which is based in Schweitenkirchen. However, the spin-off process is in full swing, meaning that Ostermeier GmbH’s hydrogen activities will be bundled in a separate start-up in the future and marketed as ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions GmbH.
Hydrogen battery
At the end of 2018, Peter Ostermeier, Managing Director of Ostermeier GmbH, and his brother Dr. Markus Ostermeier decided to establish another mainstay in the field of renewable energies. Due to their professional background, the decision was made to focus on hydrogen. The aim is to develop an H2-Battery that allows smaller residential units, medium-sized commercial enterprises or hotels to store their surplus PV or wind power in the form of hydrogen over longer periods of time and convert it back into electricity (and heat) when required. This allows them to increase their energy autonomy.
The first component of the H2-Battery, the electrolysis, will be presented at an in-house exhibition in Schweitenkirchen on November 7, 2020. The other components will then follow next year. To enable the idea and the business area to grow faster, the brothers have decided to spin off the business unit into a start-up. This gives them the opportunity to bring external investors on board.
It is particularly pleasing that the idea and the business model convinced the Energy-Start-up Bavaria 2020 competition. This means that ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions can compete in the semi-finals on September 24, 2020 to reach the final.
