Our sales partner Heim AG Heizsysteme is installing the H2 battery from OHS in a Swiss showcase project for the future energy supply of mountain communities.

Alpine regions, such as the Swiss canton of Graubünden, have enormous potential for the use of solar energy and the year-round energy autonomy of Alpine communities. However, the installation of solar systems in these areas is associated with particular challenges. A pioneering project in Obersays shows how the innovative use of solar energy can enable a building to be completely self-sufficient in its energy supply and thus ultimately promote the sustainable development of the region.

The change in energy supply

The energy supply has changed dramatically in recent years. There is an increasing movement away from large centralized power plants towards decentralized, smaller units. A trend that can be observed not only in Germany, but also in Austria and especially in Switzerland. However, the increasing spread of small, decentralized units, mostly in the form of photovoltaic systems, is placing new demands on the electricity grid. In order to keep grid expansion to a minimum, the project in Obersays, Switzerland, relies on modern technologies such as photovoltaic thermal energy (PVT) and seasonal energy storage. In close cooperation with its Swiss sales partner Heim AG Heizsysteme, OHS is supplying a key component of this seasonal energy storage system in the form of its H2 battery.

The fact that the H2 battery can also be used to set up a microgrid opens up a further interesting perspective for mountain communities with limited grid capacities in the valley. With the help of the H2 battery, the stable energy supply of the communities can be guaranteed one hundred percent from sustainable sources and at the same time, if to the greatest extent possible, without expanding the grid.

We are very pleased that our sales partner Heim AG Heizsysteme is part of this showcase project with the installation of the H2 battery, which will provide a decisive impetus as to how the future energy supply of mountain communities can be realized. We hope that this model project will become a role model for many similar initiatives in Alpine regions and that together we can realize many more such energy autonomy projects. The Alps could thus become a pioneer in the use of renewable energies.
